What can you do?

Call, write and fax your US Senator and Congressman and tell them you want to shield businesses from the burden of being tax collectors for states in which they have no physical presence. Defined as an actual building, warehouse, rented office space, employees on actual payroll etc.  Specifify that an employee for purposes of determining the existance of a nexus in that state, must be on the payroll and receive a salary or wage.  Commissions only do not make one an employee.

If you live in New York, phone, write and call your state legislator and tell them you want this law repealed. Make it clear that it may effect your personal rights with regards to making purchases online, reducing your freedom of choice as a consumer.  Tell them it is unfair to demand that a specific business be targeted for tax collection duties because of its wealth and size.

Pass this site on to your friends and ask them to pass it along as well.

Remember, this particular battle may be taking place between the State of New York and Amazon.com but the war will include all states who may choose to follow suit if New York succeeds.  The effect could mean less choice and higher prices for those remaining choices as e-tailers up prices to pay for the added costs...which could be considerable.

The time to stop this is now...before it gets out of hand.
